Is An Objective Statement Really Such A Bad Thing?

Q:  I’ve seen all of your posts about how you should start your resume with a branding statement instead of an objective. But is an objective really that bad?

A: Yes and no. Objective statements are still very common, but they are simply not the most effective way to start your resume.

The main issue with objectives is that they are generally “I want” focused. A truly effective resume will be more “I offer” focused. The beauty of a branding statement is that it allows you to highlight the things employers are most interested in learning: your qualifications, your areas of expertise and, most importantly, how you can make a positive impact on their organization.
