Every year – especially at this time – I encourage people to take their careers to the next level by tapping into their natural talents and strengths. In 2013, strive to be more of the person you ARE as opposed to wasting energy in pursuit of others’ definitions of success and happiness. It can be difficult to take the leap, but it’s very rewarding.
Again this year, I am sending out a big thanks to all of my clients and colleagues for allowing me to share my passion for Career Development and Human Resources.
Thanks for contributing to a better world by caring about your career and the way your company operates.
Here is my annual list of 10 of the blog posts that were most popular during the year.

Q. I interviewed for a position. Unfortunately, I was told that I did not get the job and that the position had been filled. What’s weird is that the position has been recently reposted. Why would they repost it if it has just been filled?
Job titles can be tricky things; sometimes they don’t accurately align with your responsibilities and other times they may sound too lofty for the kind of positions you are pursuing. I understand the urge to change them on your resume.
When pondering gifts for friends, family members and anyone in need, don't forget about the power of new job search documents and/or career development services. Do you have a job seeker in your life, or perhaps someone who is trying to take his/her career to the next level? Invest in their professional development.
Few things are as fun for me as being able to tell someone that they were gifted something that will enhance their career.
Q: Is it a bad time of year to be applying for a job?
A: No!
I get this question a lot at this time of the year. It's almost as if job seekers are looking for an excuse to take a break from searching for a new job.
Of course, some organizations are going to put hiring initiatives on hold until the beginning of the new year. However, a company's hiring needs do not change simply because it is the holiday season. Consider this... Many employees resign during the holidays. I can assure you that companies are going to hire replacements as soon as they can – especially for critical positions.
Currently, I am consulting with a company that has more open requisitions than they have had at any time during the year. What's down, is candidate interest because many people make the mistake of assuming that companies are not hiring.
Don't take your foot off of the gas. While many people will put off job-searching until 2013, stay on top of it and increase your chances of getting noticed.
Learning that you are not being considered for a position or didn’t make the cut after several interviews is disappointing. So it goes without saying that sending off a thank you after you have been let down can be a challenge. That is why so few people do it and exactly why you should.
There are a lot of people who believe their experience is just too unique to fit into a “traditional resume” or that resume writing best practices don’t apply. Whether the task just seems overwhelming or the way forward is not clear, believing you are an exception to the rule can be an easy way out.
