Living Like We're Dying
LIVING LIKE WE’RE DYING
In 2007, we kicked off one of the most remarkable periods of our lives to date – over a decade of extraordinary growth, disorienting exploration, and a deepened understanding of what matters most to us. We dubbed this period Chapter 2 (so creative, I know), and we’ve created this time capsule to capture some of our favorite memories and highest impact experiences during this “living like we’re dying” era. These stories continue to inform the decisions we make and inspire us as we move through subsequent chapters of our No Vacation Required life.

“And so often, when people are uncomfortable when we talk about this stuff, it just makes me think…that’s why you’re so unhappy in your life.”
2010

OPPORTUNITY
“Just to have these experiences… the great ones, which make the good stories, and the bad ones… there’s a lot of those too…”
2013
SUSTENANCE
“…we actually had to throw up. And we could barely enjoy the next day ‘cause we couldn’t even think about eating, and we had more meals planned.”
2014
PERSPECTIVE
“When it’s happening it’s hard to have perspective. Because at that point your still hoping it’s going to happen…”

YOLO
“These experiences showed up for us, and we were able to seize on them and they’re not things we ever thought we’d ever be able to do.”

“We could die while we’re living like we’re dying…”
2017
SYNChRONICITY
“For us to stay open to change and living like we’re dying, but also stay very grounded and ‘on purpose,’ it took a lot of work ‘cause things were moving so quickly.”

PEOPLE
“I’m laughing ‘cause we were younger and hotter then and I think old mom was trying to get us married off to her daughters.”
2019
CLOSE
“We’re on to a new chapter… which is difficult because what do you do after you’ve been living like you're dying?”
